A point about Bob Redman’s letter on how we shouldn’t call our MP’s ‘Right Honourable’ anymore.

MP’s aren’t automatically given the title ‘Right Honourable,’ it’s a title reserved for members of the Privy Council.

This is an appointment for life made by the Queen on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Government Ministers, a couple of Archbishops, some Judges, certain members of the Royal Family, and a few others join the Rt Hon club.

Old Etonian Jacob Rees-Mogg is the current President.

And you can find out who else is a Privy Counsellor at: www.privycouncil.independent.gov.uk

In 2020 UK Parliament really should be more modern, and inclusive.

It’s not just the title of Right Honourable that should go.

Unelected institutions such as the House of Lords and the Privy Council should be consigned to the history books.
