Wow! Check out these 1980s barnets!
It's safe to say that hair fashions change – as is evident from these old pictures.
The 1980s were a time famous for perms, mullets mohawks and high ponytails.
In 1980 Lisa Turner of Bitterne won the Southampton Cup for the best day style, while Robert Harnet of Swaythling won the Southampton Shield for the best free style.
That same year a hair fashion show was held at Southampton Guildhall where the top stylists demonstrated the world of ever-changing hairdos.
Roger Moore, a top stylist who started in Southampton, told the crowds: “I believe in a total look. Clothes and hair must be together.”
It was also the decade when Sharon Pearce raised more than £1,300 for the Wessex Bodyscanner Appeal by having more than 1,000 plaits. It took thirty hairdressers 28 hours to put them in, working in two relay teams.
