A SCOUT group has launched an initiative to help young people remain positive throughout lockdown.

The Magic of Kindness is a month long initiative run by 1st Chandler's Ford Scout Group.

The group are encouraging young people to carry out various spontaneous and planned acts of kindness throughout November.

Through the initiative which the scout leaders have shared on various social media channels they are then asking local children to post video clips and stories of these random acts of kindness to encourage others to do the same.

Paul Carcone, Group Scout Leader said: "This fantastic initiative has shown what Scouting can really do for both its volunteers and its Young People.

"The COVID-19 lockdowns have been an opportunity to Scouts to shine and I’m glad that my Group has responded to the call with such passion.

"Whilst I am never in any doubt that we have a truly exceptional bunch of Young People at 1st Chandlers Ford, our Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts really have reacted to adversity and uncertainly with an uncommon level kindness and with a truly heart warming level of enthusiasm.

"On a personal level, taking a couple of hours off work to go and play with my son in the park after school at the start of this initiative was just a reminder of how small acts of kindness achieve a much greater impact than the effort they take to do."

The groups says they've had everything from the Group Scout Leader bunking off work to take his son to play on his favourite swing, lots of tidying of bedrooms, making cups of tea in bed for parents, reading to younger siblings, and one Cub who decided to clear up a mess caused by his younger sister so that she didn't get into trouble.

The initiative is running until the end of November and the group want as many people as possible to get involved and to share the social media posts to encourage more people.
