A KITESURFER died following an accident which left him with head and neck injuries, an inquest opening heard.

Nicholas James O’Brien was taken to Southampton General Hospital on June 28, this year, after the incident.

Mr O’Brien, 50, of Bath Road, Woolhampton, Reading, died just two days later on June 30 whilst in hospital.

The 50-year-old was identified by Paul Sweeney, a kitesurfing instructor, who was with Mr O’Brien at the time of the accident.

Forensic pathologist Dr Basil Purdu carried out a post mortem on Mr O’Brien’s body and gave the cause of death as delayed effects of neck and head injury.

An inquest into the death was opened on Tuesday at Winchester Coroner’s Court by area coroner Jason Pegg.

Mr Pegg adjourned the hearing for a full inquest to take place on June 9, next year.
