AS holidaying within the UK becomes a far more viable option than travelling abroad, the Daily Echo takes a look into a local holiday park and when they hosted a special day for under-privileged youngsters.
More than 200 excited children had a fun-filled day out on at Sandy Balls holiday centre near Fordingbridge on October 17, 1990.
They came in coaches to swim, go on a treasure trail, paint, make clay models and let off steam in an adventure playground.
It didn't cost a penny and lunch was thrown in for free.
Their special day-long treat was laid on by the 120-acre Godshill holiday estate in conjunction with Applause, the Young Variety Club of Britain.
The setting was ideal for children set deep in Hampshire countryside away from the main roads.
