BUSES in part of Southampton were diverted last night after objects were thrown at some of the vehicles, smashing windows.
The First Southampton bus company says it took the decision to divert City Red 2 buses to protect the safety of staff and passengers.
City Red 2 buses operate between Wimpson sad the city centre.
In a statement issued yesterday evening First Southampton said: "Due to objects thrown at our buses, resulting in broken windows, all City Red 2 buses are being diverted via Romsey Road to Lordshill roundabout and then towards Shirley Road via Romsey Road.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused this evening wile our buses are diverted to protect the safety of our customers and staff."
No details have been released about the type of objects thrown, where the incidents took place and whether anyone was hurt.
City Red 2 buses normally travel along Kendal Avenue, Wimpson Lane, Redbridge Hill, Shirley High Street, Shirley Road, Portland Terrace and Above Bar Street.
In November last year a City Red 2 bus had two of its windows smashed while travelling through Millbrook.
