A FORMER Southampton sports bar could be transformed into a new flat block should plans be approved by civic chiefs.

An application to turn the former site of Liberty's Sports Bar on High Street into 12 new homes has been submitted to Southampton City Council.

The plans propose to convert the first and second floors into 12 flats for sale or rent. This would includes building on the existing ground floor skylights raising the roof area to level.

The plans were submitted by Mr Harvey, and propose seven two-bed flats and five one-bed flats.

The proposals also include plans for a new shop front and 20 spaces for bicycles to be stored.

The applicant has proposed a "modern sympathetic" design using brickwork on the front of the building, as well as new windows and a new shop frontage.

Whereas the rear of the building will be "tidied up" with a timber-look cladding.

Entry to the apartments will be via Market Place through an underpass which will include bin storage and a locked cycle compound.

An intercom system will be placed on the outside of the rear gate with a keypad video security system to control access.

The site was previously home to the popular Liberty's Sports Bar, which showed both Sky Sports and BT Sports.

The venue also held a band or a DJ every Friday and Saturday night.

The venue open on December 8, 2017, but it now permanently closed.
