A COLLEGE has confirmed that six students have tasted positive for Covid-19 in one week.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, Eastleigh, confirmed the news in a statement on its website.

Staff at the college, which has over 4,000 full-time students, say they were made aware of the six 'separate' cases among students last week.

As a result of three of the cases, 53 students have been asked to self isolate.

The other three cases didn't result in any students or staff having to self isolate according to the college.

The statement on the college website read: "We would like to congratulate students and families for continuing to follow the guidelines and communicating with us so effectively.

"College data shows that since the beginning of the pandemic there have been no cases linked to other cases in college.

"So it appears steps we have taken to manage the classroom environment have worked.

"The college continues to follow Government guidelines carefully to ensure that it minimises the risk of students and staff catching Covid."
