MILE High, thought to be the UK's first airline bar experience, has landed in Southampton.

After two dodgy take offs and subsequent crash landings as the UK went into lockdown, the bar is now flying high above Bedford Place.

Revellers are enjoying the golden age of flight in the venue, which is in the space previously occupied by Room Service, above city favourite Orange Rooms on Vernon Walk.

A series of Santa Specials will see young flight enthusiasts head to Lapland to meet the big man himself this Christmas and passengers can see the back of 2020 and ring in 2021 high in the skies over destinations including Australia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Thailand.

Guests boarding the Mile High flight experience can expect real aircraft seats, cabin crew, overhead lockers, and are given a drinks passport on arrival which is stamped when they tuck into cocktails including Up in the Clouds.

Up to 30 people at a time can choose from First Class, Business Class or Premium Economy seating and listen to a safety announcement before taking off. They are served drinks and in flight food by air hostesses to a background sound of white noise and you might even get a little turbulence before landing two hours later.

Marketing manager Reiss Stanford said: "We wanted to do something really different and make it a real experience. Orange Rooms has a retro vibe, so we thought we'd stick with that and see where we could take it.

"We've got so inspired by Pan Am and the golden age of flight that we've come up with more and more ideas. It's such a fun thing to play with.

"It's a one of a kind and it's been a real learning curve, but we absolutely love it and are busy making sure everyone has the best possible journey with us. The flights are constantly changing. It's a premium service and it's just a lot of fun."
