A MAN repeatedly punched his wife in the stomach before pulling her hair.

Dennis Brandis told his wife he was going to cut her throat, a court heard.

The 34-year-old punched her “three times to the stomach” when she asked him to turn down loud music at their home in Warren Avenue, Southampton.

He shouted that he “paid for everything” and claimed that she owed him money during the attack on October 18.

Brandis punched her to the stomach again before pulling her hair “to such an extent that strands came out”.

Prosecution barrister, Ed Warren, told how the woman’s 19-year-old daughter then fled the apartment to call the police.

However, Brandis, a forklift driver punched the girl in the stomach so she “could not breathe and causing her to fall to the floor”.

Mr Warren said how he went on to seize the teenager’s phone and threw it down a set of stairs.

During a police interview, Brandis said he believed his wife had been cheating on him.

He said he had been drinking in the city centre and had continued drinking at home.

Brandis was charged with two counts of assault and a single count of criminal damage to which he previously pleaded guilty.

Defending, Victoria Hill said her client had already served time in prison having been remanded into custody following the incident.

She urged the judge to give Brandis credit for his guilty plea and said that he deeply regrets his behaviour.

During a hearing at Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday, the court heard that he now lives in his car and showers at a gym.

Judge Nicholas Rowland made him the subject of a 24-month community order.

He will have to complete 20 days of rehabilitation and 100 hours of unpaid work.
