AN EXPERT sailor died following an accident whilst sailing around the Solent, an inquest opening heard.
John Patrick Kavanagh was onboard a yacht when it was discovered that he had hit his head.
The 63-year-old was taken to Southampton General Hospital on December 4 and a CT scan discovered he had a traumatic brain injury.
Area coroner Jason Pegg said that Mr Kavanagh, of Bushy Park Gardens, Teddington, Middlesex, died on December 10 in hospital.
A post mortem gave a preliminary cause of death as traumatic brain injury.
Mr Pegg adjourned the hearing for a full inquest to take place on September 7, next year.
