THREE boys were held up in an attempted robbery in Southampton by a man claiming he had a knife.

Two 13-year-olds and an 11-year-old were walking along Cobden Crescent when the man approached them and demanded their mobile phones and money.

He said he had a knife and grabbed one of the youths, catching the inside of his cheek and his lip with his fingers.

When the youngsters knocked on someone's door for help, the man walked away in the direction of Neva Road.

The man is described as white with dark ginger curly hair. He was wearing a Nike hooded top and white trainers and he was carrying a crate of beer.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery, which happened at about 7pm on Friday.
