A DISPERSAL order has been put in place in an area of Romsey following a rise in antisocial behaviour.
Hampshire Police have implemented dispersal powers in Romsey Town Centre, which began at 3pm today (December 22) until 3pm on Christmas Eve, December 24.
The dispersal zone covers the town centre, down to Bypass Road and the Romsey Skatepark.
It gives officers the power to disperse people under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, they can also seize any items used in the commission of anti-social behaviour.
Those under 16 will be taken be to their home address, and follow-up work will be done with parents.
The power could be extended beyond the 48 hour period.
Inspector Chris Taylor said: “We will be conducting high visibility patrols in these areas to reassure the public and deal with any issues.
“People should also be aware that congregating in groups may be a breach of Covid-19 legislation, which will also be enforced.”
Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour or large gatherings is asked to phone 101, or if it is an emergency always phone 999.
