A COLLEGE student has been highlighted as a potential future Olympian after being selected for a yachting association.
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student, Monique Vennis-Ozanne, has been chosen for the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Transition Group - 49er Winter 2020/21.
The Transition Group aims to bridge the gap between youth and adult sailing, with a focus on developing youth sailors into Olympic athletes.
The college says the second year student’s selection recognises her "potential to progress within British Youth Sailing to the British Sailing Team".
Monique formerly attended Crofton School and has been selected based on her performance and commitment to a programme of training and competition over a period of several years.
Monique said: “I'm very happy to have been selected for the squad, it is the first step in my ambition to go to the Olympics.”
Earlier this year, Vennis-Ozanne won the RYA Regional Youth Sailor of the Year Award during the annual RYA Dinghy Show in London’s Alexandra Palace.
