EITHER side of Northam Bridge, is an ever increasing number of wrecked and abandoned boats.
Some are liveaboards that have deteriorated through neglect and then cast aside when a newer vessel takes it place.
The cycle goes on and is now an eyesore and an abuse of mooring rights on our beautiful river.
They even become hazards to navigation as they could break free and float along the river, crashing into legally moored vessels.
Upriver towards Cobden railway bridge, there is a smaller settlement of derelict boats.
The Environment Agency and Southampton Council have both confirmed they have no jurisdiction over the Itchen River and suggest ABP as the local harbour authority is the responsible authority for moorings and wrecks on the river.
