MAJOR roadworks to prepare for a new bridge and road realignments in Hampshire are to start next week.

In ordered to prepare for a new bridge and road realignment at Holmsley in the New Forest, Hampshire County Council (HCC) will be carrying out major preliminary works.

The work will start on Monday, January 11, and will see a lane closure on the A35 during off-peak hours, from 9.30am to 4pm and temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place. The works should be completed by February 5.

Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: “We need to prepare the site before we replace the bridge, so this work will include clearance of trees and vegetation, followed by the installation of temporary timber fencing at the boundary between the works area and New Forest land.

"To minimise future disruption to those travelling in the area, Openreach BT will undertake their timber pole relocation at the same time.”

HCC has said that all engineers undertaking the work will take appropriate Coronavirus precautions and will adhere to government guidelines on social distancing while they are on site.
