MARWELL ZOO says it needs support "more than ever" after losing £4m in revenue due to the pandemic.
Following the announcement of the latest lockdown by Prime Minsiter, Boris Johnson, the zoo, in Colden Common, has been forced to close its doors once again.
Despite its loss of £4m since March, daily costs remain "incredibly high" as the zoo continues to care for its animals "to the highest standard".
Each month, Marwell pays out £220k just to care for its resident animals.
As well as this, the zoo is also paying to carry on its conservation programmes.
A spokesperson for the zoo said: "We’re facing our toughest challenge in our nearly 50-year history.
"Please consider supporting us during this difficult time so that future generations can experience the joy of coming to our zoo and make a difference to our conservation projects in the UK and worldwide.
"Every penny adds up and so does our gratitude. Thank you."
An online fundraiser has now been set up to help support the zoo and its work, with £79,932 raised so far.
Marwell Zoo, home to more than 140 species, is owned by Marwell Wildlife, a global conservation charity leading programmes in the UK, Africa and across the world.
