ENVIRONMENT chiefs in Southampton City Council have pledged to give a conservation area teeth by spring next year after months of delays.
They were forced to apologise to the Oakmount Triangle Residents' Association for the failure to sort out a required character appraisal and design statement sooner.
The document, which has been drawn up with help from the local community, is essential to give guidance to planners considering planning applications within the Oakmount Triangle Conservation Area, near the Common.
But poor draftsmanship means it will have to go out to public consultation again before approval because corrections are needed.
Tory councillor Gavin Dick, Cabinet member for the environment, said he was confident his officers would have it ready for adoption by the end of March provided there were no unforeseen hold-ups.
The Oakmount Triangle Conservation Area was designated in August 2005.
