POLICE launched a major crackdown on drug dealing across Hampshire today More than 100 officers continued the force's war on drugs when they swooped on addresses in the New Forest early today.

A total of eight warrants were issued, which saw five people arrested.

Officers involved in the raids were drawn from across the county and the operation involved the force's dog unit and specialist teams although no fire arms officers were used.

The operation followed nine months of intelligence-led investigations by Hampshire police's priority crime unit.

All the raids were in connection with the distribution of class A drugs.

Details of any drugs seized and which addresses were raided were expected to be released by Hampshire police later today.

Supt David Hardcastle, who is in charge of the New Forest area, said: "This demonstrated the ongoing dedication of Hampshire Constabulary to make our community safer.

"We want to encourage members of the community to assist us with our work by continuing to give us information relating to drugs or other criminal activity.

"Working together we can send a message to people who commit such crimes that they are not welcome and will be dealt with robustly.

"I believe that the fight against crime across the county is one to be fought by the whole community.

"You can help play your part by talking to us."
