A number of second dose appointments for those who have received the Covid jab have had to be cancelled due to issues with supply.

The Echo understands that no clinics have taken place this week as no new batches were delivered to GP practices in the area. Deliveries are expected to arrive next week, MP Caroline Nokes has confirmed, and clinics at Crosfield Hall should resume then.

On Saturday, January 9, Abbeywell Surgery shared positive news on the rollout of the jab, announcing 1,250 patients have received it so far.

However, it also added that those who had been booked in for their second dose could not receive it yet as no delivery was scheduled for the week ahead.

Michael Lund Yates, 86, and his wife Claire both received the vaccine on Friday last week.

Mr Yates’ second appointment is scheduled for March 26 and as far as he’s aware, it is still going ahead.

“Unless I hear otherwise I shall be on the doorstep,” he said.

He and his wife said clinics at Crosfield Hall ran “very smoothly” adding: “We couldn’t fault the system at all.”

However, he said he was “dismayed” to find out they were only taking place on Thursdays and Fridays so far, arguing people should be vaccinated “at least five or six days a week”.

MP Caroline Nokes said supply is a “limiting factor” in the rollout process, but revealed that Hampshire is leading the way compared to the rest of the South East.

She said: “This morning (January 14) a local doctor has confirmed what I was told last night by the Local Resilience Forum that more supplies are scheduled to arrive next week and the Crosfield Hall will be up and running again.

“There is a determined effort both nationally and locally to get the priority groups vaccinated as soon as possible, and that is going well.

“Obviously people are very worried, but the only limiting factor is the production of the vaccine which is happening at massive pace.

“I am doing my best to reassure residents that we are doing well here at getting the vulnerable vaccinated, and that is in no small part down to our brilliant local doctors and nurses, and the fantastic volunteers.”
