MORE than 800 new coronavirus cases and 30 deaths have been recorded in Hampshire in the last 24 hours.

A total of 30 deaths have been recorded across Hampshire in a 24-hour period.

Figures published by NHS England yesterday (January 19) have revealed that a further 30 coronavirus patients have died in 24 hours.

This brings the county’s overall total up to 1,278 deaths since the start of the pandemic in March.

A further 12 deaths were recorded at Portsmouth Hospitals Trust in the last 24 hours, bringing the Trust’s total up to 605.

At University Hospital Southampton, there were 11 new deaths recorded bringing to total to 322 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

At Hampshire Hospitals Trust, five more deaths were recorded in 24 hours, bringing the total number up to 313 deaths.

One death was recorded at Southern Health Trust, bringing to total to 33, and a further death was recorded at Solent NHS Trust, bringing the total to five.

It comes as the UK recorded the highest number of deaths in a single day since the outbreak began.

Yesterday, the UK recorded 1,610 deaths. Public Health England said the figure was of those who had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday, bringing the UK total to 91,470.

Many of the deaths included in Tuesday’s total will have taken place over the past few days, with some occurring more than a week ago, but are only now being reported due to the fact that fewer deaths are formally recorded at weekends.

Public Health England figures - as recorded on the Government website at 4.35pm yesterday - show that 808 more people have tested positive for the virus in a 24 hour period.

Across Hampshire, there has been a total of 70,092 positive tests since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 - approximately 5.09 per cent of the county’s population.

In Southampton there were 122 new cases recorded in a 24 hour period, as well as 42 new cases in Eastleigh, 50 in the New Forest, 41 in Test Valley, 47 in Fareham, 33 in Gosport, and 35 in Winchester.

There were a further 149 new cases recorded in Portsmouth, followed by 72 in Basingstoke and Deane, 34 in East Hampshire, 32 in Hart, 60 in Havant, and 91 in Rushmoor.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been 33,355 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.
