A POLICE car responding to an emergency call was involved in a crash with a Mercedes car at a Southampton junction.

The collision took place at the junction of Millbrook Road West and Regents Park Road shortly after 2pm on Saturday, January 23.

Hampshire Constabulary said the Ford Focus police car had its blue lights on and was responding to an emergency call at the time of the incident.

Two people, the passengers in both cars, were taken to hospital as a precaution.

A member of the public who did not wish to be named, said the police car had travelled through a red light at the junction "at speed".

Meanwhile, Regents Park Road resident Richard Cook reported hearing "a loud bang".

He said: "I looked out if the window and saw a police car had crashed into another car.

“The police vehicle was the more severely damaged, I don't know if it'll be a write-off.

"The police vehicle had its sirens on beforehand."
