A ROMSEY man has been slapped with a £200 fine after he was caught skateboarding with '20 people' in a Southampton carpark.

A man in his 20s was caught skateboarding in a city centre carpark last night by police, who have reported he was with 20 other people.

Despite some of the group fleeing upon the police's arrival, a number of members of the group remained where they were.

While some of the group engaged with the officers, one man from Romsey did not.

Officers asked for the man's details but he gave the officers a false name and address.

Once the police found out his actual details, he was issued with a £200 fixed penalty notice for breaching Covid rules.

In a Facebook post Hampshire Police said: "Southampton Central Neighbourhood Team were out and about this evening in not so nice conditions.

"In line with current government guidance, we have been engaging with individuals who are out and about. The majority have been sticking to the restrictions.

"However, one person decided it was appropriate to come all the way from Romsey to go skateboarding in one of our car parks. For his troubles, he received a two hundred pound fine.

"Remember, by sticking to restrictions you are helping the NHS."
