MYSTERY still surrounds the death of an eccentric count from Southampton whose body was discovered on a Hampshire motorway.
Police believe that Count Lysander de Grandy was hitchhiking for a lift when he was knocked down by a lorry on a sliproad off the M3 at Winchester.
Not much is known about the 77-year-old aristocrat, but neighbours described him as a pleasant, if slightly odd man who had lived in the area for many years.
One neighbour told how the count could be seen eating corn flakes in his local park every day, and that come rain, sun or snow he always wore a pair of khaki shorts.
According to his local pub landlord, Count de Grandy had also visited his pub almost every day for 19 years to get change, but never once bought a thing.
