COMMUNITIES from across Southampton will celebrate Chinese New Year today, but celebrations will be rather muted in the city due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

However, to mark the Year of the Ox, communities across the city will join other across the UK in a virtual celebration this Sunday.

The film titled ‘Chinese New Year Celebration 2021 Year of the Ox’ will premiere on February 14 at 7:30pm on YouTube.

More than 100 cultural artists, musicians, dancers, and marital artists from Liverpool, London, Manchester Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Southampton have untied to share the best of Chinese New Year traditions and festivities with recorded workshops, performances, and demonstrations.

Their message to the whole of the UK is: ‘Be Inspired. Be Safe,’ in reference to the constraints lockdown has imposed on our lives.

The group behind this production is Southampton-based charity UK Shaolin Temple.

The UK Shaolin Temple aims to preserve, share and promote Chinese culture and arts by delivering educational initiatives.
