AN AREA of grazing land could be transformed to create 61 new homes.

A planning application has been submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council proposing the creation of the homes on Satchell Lane, Hamble-Le-Rice.

The development would be comprised of one, two, three and four-bedroom houses, including detached, semi-detached, maisonettes and terraced properties.

Access to the new site would be provided in the form of a junction on Satchell Lane, and every home would have it’s own garage or driveway for vehicle parking.

Play space would be provided to the south of the site, as well as an open green in the centre.

Outline planning was originally granted for the area of land in 2018, allowing plans for 70 homes.

A consultation into the latest application has now begun and is set to end on March 14.

Over 270 objections have been put forward with residents raising concerns regarding increased traffic, a lack of infrastructure to accommodate the housing and the destruction of green space.

One resident said: “There are too many new houses being built in the area and no provision is made for schools and an increase in traffic.”

Developers, Foreman Homes, say however: “The philosophy behind the design is to create a high quality, sustainable, residential development which responds to, and seeks to enhance, existing features in the landscape.

“The principal street running through the development will be suitable for all types of predicted traffic movements.”
