WHAT hope have we got when local planning departments are constantly still making decisions based on what were already out of date local planning policies where retail units were concerned, which has now been massively accelerated by the COVID situation - totally changing our shopping habits for ever.

If all our planning departments keep on doing this, then we will have to put up with empty shopping centres and the anti social behaviour this encourages for many years to come.

They really need to note their job title and Plan for the future, not live in the past.

Shopping areas need to be reduced making the remaining retail units viable and providing much needed homes in highly accessible areas.

Please local planning departments and councillors wake up to the current blight these empty shop units cause.
