A 32-year-old woman died after an accidental overdose at her home, an inquest has heard.

Jemma Ford, who lived alone at Stag Close, Bishopstoke, died in hospital.

A post mortem showed a dangerous level of pain medication in her blood and a chest infection.

Miss Ford was said to have had a history of alcohol use and had occasionally “dabbled” with street drugs in the past.

On December 16, 2019, a neighbour heard her shouting and came down to tell her to be quiet.

The neighbour phoned an ambulance when she realised Miss Ford was screaming for help.

With help from the fire service to gain entry, she was found lying on her bedroom floor.

Cold to the touch and with a slightly raised heart rate she was taken to Southampton General Hospital but deteriorated quickly. She suffered a heart attack and died two days later.

Christopher Wilkinson, the coroner at the inquest, which took place at Portsmouth Coroners’ Court, said that she had died as the amount of medication she had taken had exacerbated her chest infection.

There was no evidence the drug had been prescribed, the coroner added.

He was unable to say whether the drug was taken intentionally or accidentally but said her screams for help suggested she didn’t know the affect it would have. Because of Miss Ford’s history of alcohol and occasional drug use, the coroner ruled that her death was accidental, and as a result of a drug overdose.
