POLICE are appealling for witnesses after a 71-year-old man was killed in a road smash.
The incident happened in Salt Lane in Beauworth near the junction of The Milbury's pub, between Lower Upham and Cheriton.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene at around 5.20pm yesterday where a silver Ford Fiesta was in collision with a silver BMW.
Fire crews released two people who were trapped in the vehicles and paramedics from South Central Ambulance treated five people at the scene for minor injuries.
Police confirmed that a 71-year-old man from Portsmouth, who was inside the BMW, died at the scene.
A police spokesman said the road was quiet at the time and the weather was "bitterly cold but there was no ice on the road."
A total of 16 firefighters including crews from Bishops Waltham, Droxford and a special equipment unit from Winchester attended the incident.
