THE number of people who have died after contracting coronavirus in Southampton has been revealed.

The latest data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows the location of every death where COVID-19 was the underlying (main) cause on the death certificate.

There have been a total of 122,000 deaths in the UK since the start of the pandemic and the virus has spread across the vast majority of neighbourhoods.

The data shows virus deaths that have occurred in England and Wales from March 2020 to January 2021. 

Over this period, the ONS data has 260 recorded deaths involving coronavirus for Southampton. The highest amount of deaths has been recorded in the district of Central Southampton West, with the second highest being Woolston.

The ONS has analysed details of deaths that occurred in England and Wales between March 1 and January 31 where Covid-19 was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor.
