THREE armed robbers are today believed to be on the run in a Hampshire village after raiding a nearby store.

The men are thought to be at large in Stubbington after targeting the Co-op store in Gregson Avenue, Gosport, where witnesses reported seeing a handgun.

The robbers attacked two Securicor guards and stole a number of cash boxes that were being put into a cash machine at the shop at about 7.10am.

The guards are being treated at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

The three men fled the scene in a black Golf GTI before abandoning the vehicle and swapping it for a white van.

This van was found abandoned in Albert Road in Fareham and officers now believe that the robbers are on foot in the Stubbington area.

During the search for the offenders several police officers came into contact with the robbers and were threatened by the men.

Detective Inspector Dave Smith said: "These men should not be approached. Anyone who sees anything suspicious should dial 999."
