SOUTHAMPTON students are set to learn what it’s like to work for one of the UK’s biggest banks this National Careers Week.

As part of the Today’s Learning For Your Tomorrow initiative, Cantell School in Bassett has teamed up with NatWest to provide a range of virtual workshops, videos and guest speaker talks for year seven to 11 pupils.

Throughout the careers week, which starts today, pupils will learn what it’s like working in a variety of sectors from finance and manufacturing to retail and healthcare.

The programme aims to challenge the perception of jobs in sectors which some students believe aren’t relevant or attainable and will provide budding entrepreneurs with key skills they need to start their own businesses.

Headteacher of the school which has more than 1,200 students, Harry Kutty said: “I am incredibly pleased that we are able to work alongside NatWest and other employers in the Solent to help bring careers alive.

“We are determined to ensure our youngsters leave Cantell with a skill set that enables them to grow and flourish.

“More than ever before it is important to learn from today in order to positively influence tomorrow and I am confident that the stories of resilience, innovation and enterprise are exactly what students need.”

Employers from across the Solent have come together to support the event including LUSH, Brookvale Healthcare, Bofa International, Diametric, OLIO, Rubicon Recruitment, and FidlLeaf.

Mikael Rosen, NatWest Relationship Director, Solent, said: “These students have an incredible opportunity to achieve so much in their future careers.

“The role we must play in supporting schools like Cantell is by helping students develop the core skills, knowledge and insight they need to fulfil their potential.”
