A woman has been given an ASBO and told to stay away from a picturesque village in Wiltshire after terrorising locals with abusive language.

She has been banned from visiting certain properties in Downton near Salisbury.

The council got an injunction from Salisbury Crown Court to protect residents and prevent antisocial behaviour.

It means Jennifer Rose Todd, of no fixed abode, cannot contact certain residents, be verbally abusive, and prevents her from shouting or swearing loudly in public.

If Ms Todd is found to be in breach of the Order, she could be arrested and may be held to be in contempt of court, and could be fined, imprisoned or both.

The Order remains in force for two years, until February 2023.

Council officers worked with Wiltshire Police colleagues to obtain the order, after they received a number of complaints about incidents at a council tenant’s property in the village.

The council had previously secured two closure orders on the property, but this did not resolve the situation, so it obtained the injunction.

Cllr Richard Clewer, cabinet member for housing, said: “This was a particularly upsetting situation for local residents, as there was a significant amount of antisocial behaviour in the village, which caused distress to people living nearby, some of whom are vulnerable.

“We’re pleased to have secured this order to protect the community, and are thankful to our Wiltshire Police partners, who have worked closely with our officers on this case, and will patrol the area and enforce the Order if necessary.

“We will always seek to use the powers available to protect our communities from antisocial behaviour, and this order illustrates the great work of our officers and police partners, who have made a positive difference to the lives of Downton residents.”

A/Insp Tracey Holloway of Wiltshire Police said: “We welcome this injunction order to prevent any further antisocial behaviour by this person.

“Ongoing behaviour like this, from just one individual, can have an adverse effect on so many in the community which is why it needed to be stopped.

“The people of Downton deserve to be able to live their lives without interference from such antisocial behaviour.

“We will continue to work with our partners at Wiltshire Council and enforce the order if required.”
