AN MP and a mayor encouraged residents to get vaccinated as they paid a visit to a temporary vaccination centre as it was due to deliver its 10,00th vaccine.

Last week, Eastleigh MP, Paul Holmes and Mayor of Eastleigh, Cllr Darshan Mann teamed up and headed to St Peter’s Church in Boyatt Wood which is currently being used as a vaccination centre by Boyatt Pharmacy.

Over 10,000 people have now been vaccinated at the Boyatt Wood centre alone, with 37,000 people vaccinated across the whole of Eastleigh Borough.

Whilst there, the MP and Mayor took the opportunity to promote the safety of the vaccine, and encouraged all community to get vaccinated when called, including those from BAME communities.

Mitesh Patel, from Medicine Clinic Ltd, the company that owns Boyatt Pharmacy said: “It’s really important that people don’t ignore letters from their GP or the NHS inviting them for a vaccine. Make sure you sign up and get vaccinated.”

Paul Holmes MP praised all staff and vulunteers working at vaccination centre, saying that they are “saving lives and protecting families”.

“The progress made with our vaccine rollout is truly remarkable.

“I’d also like to congratulate Mitesh and the team from Boyatt Pharmacy on delivering their 10,000th vaccination this week, a fantastic achievement.

“It is vital that that all communities, and especially our BAME communities, get vaccinated when they are called. The vaccine is safe.”

Hampshire County Council will be running discussion groups, specifically for BAME residents and community leaders this month to discuss views and issues around Covid-19.

Mayor of Eastleigh Darshan Mann added: “I’m delighted to come along and support the fantastic work of Mitesh and the team of volunteers at this vaccination centre here in Boyatt Wood as well as other similar centres throughout the borough.

“We can all play our part in fighting Covid-19, so sign up and get your vaccination as soon as you receive your invitation.”

Those interested in signing up for one of the discussions can do so on the County council website.
