AN APPEAL has been lodged against a decision to refuse planning permission for 92 new homes in a Hampshire village.

In November last year, Eastleigh Borough Council refused planning permission for an application to build 92 homes on land to the south of Maddoxford Lane and west of Westfield, Boorley Green in Botley.

The application by Bloor Homes detailed how the homes would be a mix of two-storey, semi detached, terraced, maisonette and flatted homes.

Vehicle access was planned to be provided via Maddoxford Lane and 35 percent of the homes were set to be affordable.

On November 9, the application was refused planning permission at a meeting of the Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee.

The refusal was made on the grounds that the development would be visually intrusive, inappropriate and a poor quality development.

It was also said that insufficient information was provided about the development and that the application failed to secure developer contributions for on and off-site facilities.

An appeal against that decision was made on February 16 by Bloor Homes and is now set to be reported at a local area committee meeting next Monday.

As previously reported, at the time of the original application residents voiced their concerns about the overdevelopment of the area, with one resident saying: "The Planning Application will increase the size of an already overdeveloped Boorley Green, and cause further stress on the already busy country roads in the area.

"This development will only add to the constant traffic noise and air pollution."

Bloor Homes claim however that the design of the development would "result in a pleasant environment to live".

"The site is in a sustainable location with access to a range of employment, retail and education facilities."

A decision date on the appeal has not yet been decided by the council.
