MORE than 63,000 people in Southampton have received at least their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, figures show.

Of those, more than half have been given to those aged under 65, with 32,152 in the city who have been placed on the priority being given a jab.

Figures from Public Health England also show that over 80s were the next group to receive the most first doses, with 8,679 getting the vaccine so far.

In total, 63,637 people in Southampton have been given their first vaccine dose.

Broken down, the other three groups have received: 65-69 - 7,991; 70-74 - 8,468; 75-79 - 6,347.

No full data for second doses has been released for the city.

Looking at the wider Hampshire region, the figures ramp up significantly.

Public Health England has recorded that the county, along with the Isle of Wight - as the two areas' figures have been grouped together, have seen 587,846 resident being given their first dose

Of those, 22,808 have received both their first and second doses.

Broken down, this is the number of people who have received their first dose across the two areas: Under 65 - 237,377; 65-69 - 86,036; 70-74 - 97,464; 75-79 - 73,962; Over 80 - 103,007.

And those who have received their second dose too: Under 65 - 4,546; 65-69 - 252; 70-74 - 149; 75-79 - 177; Over 80 - 17,684.
