A SECOND man has been arrested  after a university lecturer was subjected to a racist attack while jogging in Southampton. 

On February 23, Dr Peng Wang, a lecturer at the University of Southampton was out jogging when a group of four men drove past in a car shouting abuse at him. 

Police say that the men then got out the car, approached Dr Wang, and proceeded to punch and kick him to the ground. 

The incident, which officers have confirmed was racially aggravated, happened at around 4.15pm on Vosper Road.

Dr Wang, who is originally from China and aged 37, was taken to hospital with injuries to his face and elbow. 

A man, aged 23 from Southampton, was initially arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault.

He was released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

Yesterday, Thursday, 4 March, officers arrested a second man, aged 35, from Southampton, on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He remains in custody at this time.
