WORK to resurface a Hampshire motorway is set to start this summer, the Prime Minister has confirmed.

At Prime Minister's Questions today, Boris Johnson confirmed that work would start on resurfacing the M27 this summer as part of an "infrastructure revolution".

Funding for the project was secured in November 2020 to make the road quieter for residents and businesses nearby.

The concrete section of the M27 is set to be resurfaced with "low noise asphalt" and work is predicted to take 2-3 years to deliver.

It comes after local residents campaigned for years, with some claiming the noise was so bad they were unable to sleep.

On the news, Eastleigh MP Paul Holmes said: “Having secured the funding in November, I am delighted that my work with campaigners like Jerry Hall and local residents has paid off and the project will start this summer.

“Laying a new quiet road surface on the concrete section will make such a difference to people living in Hedge End and West End and improve their quality of life enormously.

“I am pleased to see that this Conservative Government is delivering for the people of Eastleigh.”

Contractors are currently being appointed for different elements of the project.
