SOUTHAMPTON is home to the sixth most private learner drivers in the country, new data has shown.
Car insurance provider, Veygo, has discovered that there are 220 private learner drivers in the city for every 100,000 people.
The data has been published in this years Learner Driver Report which has been created using internal data and a national survey to reveal what the current landscape is like for those learning to drive.
Top of the list was Cambridge which has 377 private learner drivers per 100,000, with Southampton being the only city on the South Coast to make the top 20.
Gunnar Peters, CEO of Veygo said: “The pandemic has changed the way we learn to drive massively, with many lessons and tests being cancelled due to lockdown and many driving instructors being unable to work. We’ve seen increased demand for learner driver insurance for private practise as a result.
“This has put pressure on learner drivers, as they’ve had a lack of professional advice and relied on family members to teach them to drive.
“If you’re considering teaching your child how to drive, learner driver insurance is a great way to insure your child without affecting your main insurance policy."
