A NEW Banksy-style mural has appeared on a bridge in Hampshire

The artwork has been painted on a wall near the Handlebar Cafe in Winchester, and it has got people asking if the piece is a Banksy original.

It shows a figure of a child holding the line of a kite, which leads up to a real rainbow kite caught in the nearby branches.

The figure and style is very similar to artwork found across the UK, including two pieces of art in Southampton on Shirley Road, Mount Pleasant Road, and work in Bevois Valley.

Despite the similarities the artwork was not by the infamous Banksy, but rather a local artist who goes by the name Hendog.

On their Instagram page, @hendog_art, they said: "To all the mums, I left a little surprise at the Handlebar Cafe for you Happy Mother's Day you really deserve it."

On March 1 last year, a mural was painted on a wall in Mount Pleasant Road in Southampton.

It shows the figure of a child holding a balloon with the words "our future" sprayed across the top.

It is believed the art in Mount Pleasant Road could be a real Banksy painting.

The artwork discovered on Shirley Road in 2011 was surrounded by doubt from an art industry insider who said that it was "unlikely" to be Banksy.

Banksy is an anonymous England-based street artists and political activist who is famous all around the world.
