TWO teenagers have been arrested after a car was damaged and a driver assaulted with a catapult.

Yesterday at around 8.15pm police responded to reports of damage being caused to a car and a driver being assaulted.

The incident is said to have taken place using a catapult and metal ball bearings near to Lordshill District Centre.

A group of six young people were then seen on the footpath under Romsey Road and two were immediately arrested.

The other four are said to have ran off and despite police giving chase, managed to escape.

A 16 and 17 year old have been arrested on suspicion of assault and causing criminal damage.

They currently remain in police custody.

A bag, discarded by the group is said to have contained "well over a hundred" metal ball bearings and a box of firecrackers.

Police are now appealing for help with finding the other four suspects.

A spokesperson said: "If you are one of the youths who fled and want to get in touch with us to resolve this sensibly, them come forward.

"We are making enquiries to identify all the offenders who fled. We have CCTV to look through. If you decide against coming forward, keep looking over your shoulder.

"Be prepared for that knock at the door. Make it easy on yourself and do the right thing. Take some responsibility for your actions. Put right the damage you have caused, there is a victim at the end of the day."
