POLICE were called to a Hampshire beach last night to disperse more than 30 teenagers who had gathered in a seafront shelter.

Officers say the teenagers were "very rude and aggressive" and left the shelter at Stokes Bay, Gosport.

Gosport police have described the incident in a series of tweets.

They said: "Last night officers attended a gathering of more than 30 teenagers at Stokes Bay.

"An 18-year-old Gosport male, who had earlier been spoken to and warned by police, was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

"Another member of the group was reported for summons, relating to a fixed penalty notice for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

"One of our attending officers said 'the group were very rude and aggressive and the mess left behind was disgusting'.

"Our officers should not have to, and will not, tolerate this type of behaviour. It is not acceptable and will be dealt with accordingly.

"Not that it was their responsibility to do so, but the officers were keen to clear up the mess.

"However, due to the amount of vomit and broken glass, they weren't equipped to do so, hence why some of you have noticed it still there this morning.

"We often get the group in question to clean up their own mess, prior to them leaving an area.

"However, it was not appropriate to do so on this occasion. The officers simply wanted the group dispersed in order to prevent any further disorder from arising."
