A HUNT has been launched for a BMW driver following a road rage incident.

A man driving a BMW is reported to have threatened the driver of a Renault Clio with an iron bar.

The victim, a man in his 40s was driving a blue Clio along Portsmouth Road, Bursledon when he was overtaken by a dark blue BMW 3 series.

According to police, the BMW stopped abruptly in front of the Clio causing both vehicles to stop.

The BMW driver then got out of his car brandishing what was described as an iron bar or police-style baton.

He then approached the victim whilst shouting and making threatening gestures. The victim reversed his Renault Clio and fled the scene.

However, the BMW driver pursued the victim around the Sholing area. The victim managed to drive to Hedge End police station, at which point the BMW drove off in the direction of Bursledon.

No one was injured and police have now launched a witness appeal following the incident which happened close to the Plough Inn at around 7pm on Friday.

The BMW driver is described as white, between 25 and 35-years-old, and of slim build.

He is said to have short brown or blonde hair and was wearing blue jeans at the time.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of the Plough Public House on Portsmouth Road and the Sholing, Bursledon and Hedge End areas at around the time of the incident.

"Did you witness the incident? Did you see two cars appearing to be racing in the areas described? Perhaps you have dash-cam footage that could help our investigation?
