A NEW scheme has been launched to recognise those who worked to support those in need during the

pandemic.

On Friday, Fareham Borough Council launched its new special recognition scheme, “COVID Heroes Awards”.

The aim of the awards is to recognise organisations and individuals of all ages who have worked tirelessly to support those in need during the pandemic.

The scheme has been created in recognition of the “exceptional circumstances” that have presented themselves during the last year and the people who have become a lifeline to others and will take the place of the Council’s annual ‘Citizen and Young Citizen of Honour Awards’ for one year only.

There are three categories for the awards:

1. Adults (over 18). In recognition of outstanding service to the community or contribution to helping the lives of others during the COVID-19

pandemic.

2. Young People (under 18). In recognition of outstanding personal achievements or becoming a role model to family, friends or the community.

3. Organisations. In recognition of outstanding community service during the COVID-19 pandemic and going above and beyond to help the Fareham community.

Members of the public are now being encouraged to nominate friends, neighbours or family members who they think deserve recognition.

Businesses that have helped their community’s through non-profit activity can also be nominated.

All nominees will receive a certificate of thanks from the Mayor and the Leader of the Council and up to five overall winners from each category will be invited to a celebration event hosted by the council and presented with their award.

Nominations for the awards are due to close on June 30.
