POLICE responded to more than 4,500 reports of antisocial behaviour in Southampton in the past 12 months, according to official figures.
Data from police.uk shows that there were 4,627 reports of antisocial behaviour between March 2020 and February 2021.
This is the equivalent to more than 12 offences a day.
Antisocial behaviour is defined as 'behaviour by a person which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to persons not of the same household as the person' according to the Antisocial Behaviour Act 2003 and Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011.
The data breaks the city down into five areas: Bargate; Bevois; Coxford, Redbridge, and Millbrook; Portswood; Shirley and Freemantle.
Instances of antisocial behaviour between March 2020 and February 2021:
- Bargate: 1,076 (19.2% of total crime reported)
- Bevois: 771 (13.8%)
- Coxford, Redbridge, and Millbrook: 1,283 (20.1%)
- Portswood: 655 (15.2%)
- Shirley and Freemantle: 842 (17.8%)
Total crime for those areas between March 2020 and February 2021:
- Bargate: 5,601
- Bevois: 3,012
- Coxford, Redbridge, and Millbrook: 6,369
- Portswood: 4,303
- Shirley and Freemantle: 4,722

Antisocial behaviour is behaviour by a person which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to persons not of the same household.
Examples of antisocial behaviour include but are not limited to:
- Excessive or persistent noise e.g. loud music or TV.
- Abusive or insulting behaviour.
- Shouting, screaming, swearing or drunkenness.
- Using violence or threatening to use violence.
- Vandalism, graffiti or fly–tipping.
- Using cars or motorbikes illegally.
