DOES your letter writer Mr Walters (Echo 31st March) not realise that thousands of Southampton residents are aghast at the very idea of the Eastleigh Airport runway being extended to enable bigger and noisier aeroplanes to disturb their lives?
That was why Southampton City Council voted against the extension and lobbied Eastleigh Borough Council to do the same.
Winchester City Council has also voted against and lobbied Eastleigh.
Many Eastleigh residents also face increased noise and pollution and are shocked that the leader of Eastleigh Council seems determined to override the Local Area Committee by getting approval from the full Eastleigh Borough Council which includes councillors who live as far away as Hamble and Chandler’s Ford and that our new MP for Eastleigh has launched a petition for approval.
Several of your readers have queried what might happen to the airport site in the event of closure.
In fact it would be a godsend because it would enable a really well designed Chickenhall bypass road to be built and relieve much of the road congestion which plagues Eastleigh at present.
