Whether the first three months of 2021 have flown by or dragged for you, Southampton might look a little different when we finally emerge from lockdown. 

Here are some of the major planning applications approved in the city so far this year. 

1. New bar and restaurant to open in Southampton city centre.

In January council bosses granted permission to change a takeaway on Oxford Street into a bar which will host live music events and acts such as belly-dancing.

2.  Child care unit approved in Southampton City Centre

Plans to convert residential housing on Morris Road into a support for vulnerable children and their parents were approved in February.

3. Over 100 trees to be cut down in Marlhill Copse

Southampton City Council granted permission in February to cut down over 100 trees in ancient woodland due to safety concerns after they were infected with a fungal disease. 

 4. Tower block left empty for 12 years to be demolished.

The demolition of former student accommodation block in Swaythling was approved this month.
The block, owned by The University of Southampton, was described by a local councillor as "unsightly."

5. Plans for a 'nautical-themed' children's play area at Westquay approved
