WREATHS have been laid at a Hampshire monument to pay respects to the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Chairman of Hampshire County Council, and County Council Leader laid wreaths inside Winchester’s Great Hall at midday, Saturday, April 10.

These flowers are now displayed in the main reception area of the County Council’s Elizabeth II Court headquarters building.

A Wreath was also laid in Winchester Cathedral.

Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, residents are politely discouraged from laying their own floral tributes at this or other locations.

Instead, the Royal Family ask that members of the public consider making a donation to a charity. For further information, visit www.royal.uk/donations

On April 9, it was announced that Prince Philip had died.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

He was aged 99.

Prince Philip died at Windsor Castle weeks after being discharged from a month-long stay in hospital.

The royal family’s official website switched to a holding page in memory of the duke.

It featured a central image of Philip on a black background, accompanied by the Palace’s statement.
