RESIDENTS have been warned after a spate of break-ins to garages and sheds.

Garages and sheds have recently been broken into in the Winchester District.

Overnight on Saturday, police have also received reports of outbuildings being targeted in Twyford and Shawford.

Now officers have been going house to house to reassure homeowners in these areas.

They are also advising residents to:

  • Fit alarms
  • Mark items with postcodes
  • Make sure strong locks, padlocks, door hinges or other security devices are fitted.
  • Make sure items are secure.
  • Remember to lock garages or sheds after use.
  • Do not store large quantities of valuables in garages and sheds.
  • Keep property and fencing in good repair.

A police spokesperson said: "999 should only be used in emergency situations; when a life is in danger or a crime is happening right now.

"To speak to the police about anything else, you should call 101 or contact us online."
