SOUTHAMPTON has been named in the top ten buyer's market areas across Britain.

New data from property website, Rightmove, has shown that of homes put on the market this year in the city centre, only 33.3 per cent have sold subject to contract (SSTC).

The average asking price in the city for this year is £210,095, making it the tenth best area in the country for buyers according to Rightmove.

The property site says the data shows city centres are moving much more slowly compared to other parts of the country, with five of the top ten buyers markets to be found in city centre areas.

Top of the list was Birmingham with 18.4 per cent of properties sold and an average asking price of £218,072.

Director of Property Data Tim Bannister said: "Both sale and rental properties in city centres have been suffering over the past year as the usual appeal to live there has temporarily been taken away, leading to more stock than usual being available, but we may see these start to shift more quickly over the next few months as lockdown restrictions continue to be removed."
